Note: I've ended up going with a different service than this post - see the second post in this thread: -I did a search and couldn't see any discussion on how to do this. I've just finished getting a speed camera database into the Nav as POIs on an SD card, and thought others might find it useful.
I paid £4 and registered with. Then downloaded the complete UK speed camera database: POI Files (top of screen) road safety united kingdom UK speed cameras DOWNLOAD Mercedes POI format I did try and just import that, but it failed. I read a few forum posts that questioned just how complete the all-in-one file actually is, so I decided to take a look at an alternative database source too - pocketgpsworld.com. They do have an all-in-one file and their mercedes comand file works pretty much as-is, although I changed the activity level to 'warning' to get the beep. I've had a quick look and it is showing mobile cameras in spots that I know do sometimes have them - so this one looks like the keeper for me. Just wanted to resurrect this thread, as I've recently been experimenting to find a convenient way to load speed camera POIs onto my Comand navigation.

This makes the whole conversion process very easy without resorting to a text editor. The MB POI Loader is free software although any voluntary donations are welcome.

And yes, the price is very realistic too! Having said that, I could not possibly abide by anything like this as they are highly illegal in Francebut a quick trawl of their database shows that France is pretty well covered from the ones that I know and have been caught!
Question though - not for me of course, but for someone outside France - assuming the right version of NTG, will the camera locations beep whilst not in Navi mode? I had a satnav many moons ago that had POIs but they were only active when the satnav was in program mode, ie it was taking you somewhere. But if this databse is like the speed limits that flash up when you enter them, then much more useful. Whilst on the subject of POIs, and in particular the speed limit notification, it would be very good for the speed limit to stay displayed in a corner of the info screen just as a reminder - I guess this would have to be a function created by the MB programmers though. As far as I am aware the earlier NTG4 cannot create the warning sound but the cameras do appear. RussOf course I have no intention of installing illegal software, but for someone who might be considering this AND is convinced that anything electronic and computery is the work of the devil, how would that person: a) Find out what level NTG is in their Command, and b) Upgrade to 4.5 if the version should be earlier?

Hi Hal, I was wrong regarding the NTG version. My 2012 '55 has 4.5 but the later cars have 4.7 which is the one you need to make a 'beep'. As far as I know, there are hardware changes between the two versions so its not possible to upgrade via a software update. I believe there is a hidden menu which gives details about software/firmware versions but I'm not sure how to access it. Russ and Malcolm, I understand from a buddy on another site that the way to determine if one has V4.5 or 4.7, is to attempt to make a data connection using an iphone. If it connects, then 4.7 whereas if there is a message saying 'device not supported', then it is 4.5.

And yes, there is no direct upgrade path. Anyway, tested mine and I can connect to the internet without any trouble. So I get a beep! All I need now is to get the POIs to transfer to the info screen - although with a beep this now is not so important. As I am not allowed to have such POI databases installed, I will suggest to my friend outside France to give the SCDB one a try. I will let you know how he gets on! You are right, the map screen has to be on to get the display.

The speed camera icon is quite prominent on the map display, but of course you have to be looking at the map screen (and therefore not the road) to see it. I agree that it would be good to have the POI show on the centre screen like the speed limits, but sadly only the MB programmers could make this enhancement. Just to add to my previous post regarding the Comand version 4.7, the audible warning happens even when the map screen is not showing. Regards, Malcolm. OK Malcolm - fallen at the second hurdle! MB POI Loader does not appear to have a version for Mac, and I do not have a windows PC - and come to think of it, neither do any of those close to me! Is there another loader anywhere, do you know?
As it happens - yes! I wrote my own, but told the author of MB POI Loader that I wouldn't advertise it since he did it first. However my version should run on a Mac and Linux as well as Windows. But since I don't have a Mac myself, we might need to correspond a bit to get it working.
