Dell R320 Install Windows

I am having trouble installing WS2012 R2 Std onto my server. It came shipped with windows server 2012 essentials. But I wanted to upgrade to std r2. I purchased an OEM key and downloaded the 180 trial from microsoft. However I cannot get it to install on my server. It is not working through the lifecycle manager - it always says unable to find media. If I boot directly into the disk created from the download it wanted the drivers.

I can't figure out how to do this. What drivers do I download? From the dell site it keeps giving me.exe files what do I even do with those?I have a perc 110 controller. RAID 10.Are there any links to tutorials anyone knows of on how to install your own server on a dell without using the lifecycle manager? Thanks for the help.

I have a nice shiny new Dell Poweredge R320 sitting here. I got 2TB drives X4 in it, and I haven't' decided how I want to deploy this thing.Ultimately it will be off site, and connected to my main office with a fibre line. I want to run DFS on it, and get an offsite live copy of all my DFS stores to get some sort of offsite backup. The drives have come without a config in them.

At the risk of admitting this, I like RAID 5, but I have read the threads recently that discuss this, so I am wondering what other people would recommend on how to deploy this server on my network. It will be running Windows Server 2008 R2. I am tempted to put VMWare on it, and at least give me the option to do my backups via Veeam, rather than install Windows on the bare metal. If I do go this route (and I am quite certain I will), how should I configure this storage? I would like at least 4 TB of online storage available, and I think that I can do this if I mirror the drives and stripe the drives.Any ideas anyone? Thanks. Another fan of OBR10 (one big RAID 10) here.

RAID 5 in unreliable with drives that big, and to be honest you probably don't need or won't miss those extra 2TB.Alternatively you could go with RAID 6 if your controller supports it and you feel that RAID 10 is too risky, you'll take a performance hit but frankly you won't see it.As far as the OS. Don't just put Windows on it, those days are over.Use ESXi (the free version) or Hyper-V Standalone, Xen works too but to be honest it's not as common a deployment. You'll get better management and you'll be able to do more with that server if the branch grows (it'll also allow you to create a second VM with a backup appliance or firewall if you ultimately go that route). Now if you were to go bare metal with the 2012 install then you could argue for the Raid 5.Were you going to install the host on an internal USB or SD card?I've got the PERC card building the RAID-10 right now. It's at 30%.What is the advantage of installing the host on a USB or SD card?I have VMWare already, currently running 4.1U3 on my main server, so am familiar with it and like it. I can add this host to my vcentre. It will have about 10 or 15 workstations at the courthouse that it will be servicing. I want to be able to run veeam backups on this, and cannot do that if it is Windows on bare metal. Plus if I want to make a full blown DR site and throw some hardware over there, I don't want to have to convert it to a VM at that point anyways.

I want DFS over there because then I don't need to try and figure out robocopy.
